Talks, films and exhibitions in Winchester Guildhall

The conference chamber will feature five free fascinating talks and short films. 

11.00 to 12.00 - Water wildlife slideshow and Q & A session with Chris Packham

12.15 to  1.00 - Water sensitive garden design by Mark Lawrence

 1.15 to  2.00 - Film: A Journey Through the History of Water

 2.15 to  2.45 - Archive film footage of Hampshire's Rivers introduced by David Lee of Wessex Film & Sound Archive

 3.00 to  3.45 - 'Waterways & Halcyon Days' by local wildlife photographer Dennis Bright

From 10.00 to 4.00 there will be the opportunity to visit the Hampshire Water Expo in the Guildhall’s main room – the King Alfred’s Hall – featuring a range of water-related organisations. Those confirmed so far include;

  • Anglers Conservation Association (who regularly take illegal polluters to court)
  • Butterfly Conservation
  • Common Ground (exhibition on rivers and their local distinctiveness)
  • Drinking Water Inspectorate
  • Environment Agency
  • Greenmark International (renewable energy from water)
  • Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust (with a water tank full of mini-beasts!)
  • Hampshire and Surrey Canal Society
  • Hampshire Bat Group
  • Hampshire County Council
  • Hampshire Mills Group (champions of Hampshire's 200 water mills, with their working model of a mill)
  • Hampshire Record Office (with an exhibition documenting the history of the use and abuse of water in Hampshire)
  • Institute of Plumbing (come and learn how to fix a tap!)
  • New Forest Wetland Restoration Project (a £2.9m EU funded project)
  • South East Climate Change Partnership (how should we adapt to climate change?)
  • WaterVoice Southern (consumer watchdog for the water industry)
  • Winchester Photography Society (presenting their new ‘Water in Hampshire’ exhibition)
