The Water Market - 10.00am to 4.00pm
Hampshire’s first ever Water Market, which will be
held in the beautiful surroundings of the Outer Close of
Winchester Cathedral, will showcase a diverse range of water-related
produce and products. Central to the water market will be
a specialist farmers market featuring a range of foods and
drinks dependant on a clean and plentiful supply of water.
There will also be stalls selling watery products that you
probably shouldn’t eat, such as green soaps and detergents,
water filters, water recycling systems, water butts, drought-resistant
garden plants, native pond vegetation, books, a water
toy, and jewellery. There will be stalls from;
- Ashford Water Trout Farm (smoked trout & fishcakes)
- Broughton Water Buffalo (buffalo burgers)
- Cheriton Water Plant Nursery (native plants for water
features)
- Common Ground (arts/environmental charity)
- Cresson Creative (watercress products including pancakes)
- Dairy Barn Farm Shop (rare breads meat)
- Fonthill Glebe Wines (local grape wines, fruit wines
and liqueurs)
- Green Shop (green soaps, water recycling systems, books
and more)
- Hedley Mill (organic flour produced in a Hampshire water
mill)
- Itchen Valley Brewery (local beers)
- Little-B: Learn to Grow (local inventor of a water toy
for 1-7 year olds)
- Lyburn Farm (cheese and organic vegetables)
- Maple Leaf Watercress (local watercress)
- Nick Crump of Pipeworks (demonstration of musical instruments
made from plumbing equipment including the Bath Harp and
the Boghorn!)
- Sparsholt College (drought-tolerant garden plants &
native pond vegetation)
- Sunnyfields Organic Farm (organic vegetables)
- Turfton Plants (water sensitive garden plants)
- Tinklertastic (glass jewellery inspired by the River
Itchen)
- WaterAid (international water charity – free tap
water from their stall!)
Southern Water’s events marquee will
also be present at the Water Market, featuring;
- Southern Water’s Silver Medal-winning 2003 Chelsea
Flower Show exhibit
- Free quote on whether or not a water meter will save
you money (please bring your water bill)·
- Ollie
the Otter teaching children about water safety
- Special offer on ordering water butts - £14.95
(plus £5 p&p) delivered to your door
- Free handheld hose gun (RRP £5.95) if you bring
in your old garden sprinkler in exchange
- Free ‘hog bags’ - save water each time you
flush!
You will also have the opportunity to visit Winchester
Cathedral and have guided tours to explore it’s
many watery links such as King Canute, St Swithun, Izaak
Walton, The Crypt and Anthony Gormley's Sculpture "Sound
II", and William Walker the
diver. Tours will commence at 10.00 11.00, 12.00, 1.00, 2.00
and 3.00. International charity WaterAid will
also be holding an exhibition
inside the Cathedral. The Cathedral request a donation
upon entry.
